A fascinating article on MaximumPC gave me a heads up on a little trick to keep my gmail address private (or, at least, find out who's sharing it without my permission).
When signing up for online accounts, append your normal gamil account with a unique identifier, thus: firstname.lastname@example.org. Where xxx is a unique string of arbitrary length that identifies a particular supplier or website.
For instance, if your email address is email@example.com and you want to sign up for komphix newsletters, you could append your email address to be firstname.lastname@example.org
The whole article is worthy of your time if you want to make the most of your gmail account.
